On Tuesday, December 16, 2014, President Obama signed into law the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015. The Act provides $592.2 million in funding to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for the fiscal year (FY) 2015 that began October 1, 2014. This funding level is $17.9 million below the FY 2015 President’s Budget. In order to maintain current production and core programs within this funding level, the BLS is curtailing spending on a temporary basis in FY 2015. This means, for example, that planned improvements and development and research projects will be deferred or curtailed. If funding is similarly constrained in FY 2016, the BLS will be forced to consider programmatic reductions or eliminations.
