BLS introduced state labor productivity estimates for the private nonfarm sector as an experimental dataset in June 2019. The latest official estimates were released in May 2021. Dr. Pabilonia co-authored a Monthly Labor Review article describing the data and methodology used to produce these new estimates. In addition, the article examines the compensation-productivity gap, the relationship between productivity growth and the share of output in the information and communications technology producing sector, and whether state-level labor productivity is converging following the Great Recession.
