Special series: articles from the 2013 Occupational Safety and Health Statistics Data Users’ Workshop

On May 1516, 2013, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Safety and Health Statistics (OSHS) program held a special data users’ workshop in Washington D.C. The gathering, which coincided with the 40-year anniversary of the OSHS program, was attended by many data users and researchers in the health and safety community within government, private industry, labor, and academia. The workshop included keynote speeches from data users, researchers, and stakeholders. There also were presentations of papers by safety and health professionals.

During the next few weeks, the Monthly Labor Review will publish a series of papers from the OSHS workshop on a variety of topics regarding work-related injuries, illnesses, and fatalities from the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII) and Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI).
