There were 5.0 million job openings in December 2014, the highest level since January 2001. There were 5.1 million hires and 4.9 million separations during December 2014.

The number of job openings increased over the 12 months ending in December 2014 for total nonfarm, total private, and government. Job openings increased over the year for many industries, including professional and business services and health care and social assistance. The number of openings increased over the year in all four regions.
