Private employer costs for pay and benefits rose 1.8 percent from March 2015 to March 2016. That compares with a gain of 2.8 percent from March 2014 to March 2015. Wages and salaries increased 2.0 percent from March 2015 to March 2016.

Employer costs for benefits rose 1.2 percent from March 2015 to March 2016. That was lower than the 2.6-percent increase from March 2015 to March 2016.
Although the increase in overall benefit costs was smaller, employer costs for health benefits increased somewhat more rapidly. Employer costs for health benefits rose 3.3 percent from March 2015 to March 2016, compared with 2.5 percent from March 2014 to March 2015.
The 12-month increases in employer costs for health benefits ranged from 2.1 to 3.3 percent from March 2012 to March 2016. That compares with increases ranging from 3.4 to 5.2 percent from 2006 to 2011.
