Total compensation costs for civilian workers in the educational services industry rose 2.3 percent from September 2016 to September 2017. Civilian workers include both private and state and local government workers. For the 12-month period ending in September 2016, the increase was 2.5 percent.

Within educational services, total compensation for workers in elementary and secondary schools rose 2.3 percent from September 2016 to September 2017. Compensation for workers in junior colleges, colleges, universities, and professional schools also increased 2.3 percent over the year.

In educational services, wages and salaries make up about two-thirds of compensation costs, while benefits make up the remaining one-third.
