From 2003 to 2017, on an average day, the share of men doing food preparation and cleanup increased from 35 percent to 46 percent. Over the same period, the share for women also increased, from 66 percent in 2003 to 69 percent in 2017.

In 2017, on an average day, 19 percent of men did housework such as cleaning or laundry. The same percentage of men did housework in 2003. In 2017, forty-nine percent of women did housework. This compared with 54 percent of women in 2003. In 2017, men (11 percent) were slightly more likely to engage in lawn and garden care than were women (8 percent).
From 2003 to 2017, the share of men and women engaged in telephone calls, mail, and e-mail decreased, from 20 percent to 15 percent for men and from 31 percent to 24 percent for women.
