From December 2016 to December 2017, 25 states added nonfarm payroll jobs, while the number of jobs was essentially unchanged in 25 states and the District of Columbia. The largest percentage gain occurred in Nevada (+3.3 percent), followed by Oregon (+2.7 percent) and Utah (+2.6 percent).

Florida, Texas, South Carolina, California, Idaho, Washington, and Colorado were the only other states with over-the-year employment increases of 2.0 percent or more.
In terms of the number of jobs, the largest gains over the most recent December-to-December period occurred in California (+342,500), Texas (+306,900), and Florida (+213,500). The only other states with increases of 75,000 or more were New York, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.
