Job openings rate down in 17 states, up in 2 states in June 2022

The job openings rate decreased in June in 17 states, increased in 2 states, and was little changed in 31 states and the District of Columbia. The largest percentage decreases rates occurred in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania (−1.3 percentage points each), followed by Rhode Island (−1.2 percentage points). Increases in job openings rates occurred in Georgia (+0.9 percentage points) and Ohio (+0.4 percentage points).

The hires rate decreased in 3 states and increased in 1 state in June 2022. The decreases occurred in Nevada (−1.9 percentage points), Texas (−0.7 percentage point), and Illinois (−0.5 percentage point). The increase occurred in Michigan (+0.7 percentage points).

In June 2022, the total separations rate decreased in 5 states and increased in 3 states. The quits rate decreased in 7 states and increased in 5 states, while the layoffs and discharges rate decreased in 9 states and increased in 5 states.

Nationally, the job openings rate was 6.6 percent in June 2022, which was a 0.3-percentage point decline from the May 2022 rate of 6.9 percent
