The largest decreases in job openings rates occurred in Pennsylvania (−1.9 percentage points) and Kentucky (−1.4 points), as well as Alaska and South Carolina (−1.3 points each). The largest increases in job openings rates occurred in Wisconsin (+0.9 percentage point) and in Iowa, Kansas, and South Dakota (+0.7 point each). Over the month, the national job openings rate decreased (−0.3 percentage point).

In April, Kentucky had the highest job openings rate, at 8.4 percent, followed by Alaska (8.4 percent), and Georgia (8.1 percent). New York had the lowest job openings rate (5.7 percent), followed by the District of Columbia (5.9 percent), and Washington, Connecticut, and Utah (6.0 percent each).
