U.S. import prices increased 4.2 percent from October 2021 to October 2022. The 12-month rise was the smallest over-the-year advance since U.S. import prices rose 3.0 percent over the year ended February 2021.

Import fuel prices rose 16.9 percent from October 2021 to October 2022. A 16.8-percent advance in import petroleum prices and a 20.8-percent advance in import natural gas prices contributed to this increase.
Nonfuel import prices increased 2.9 percent from October 2021 to October 2022 led by higher prices for nonfuel industrial supplies and materials (5.9 percent). Other increases among nonfuel imports occurred in foods, feed, and beverages (2.2 percent), capital goods (3.0 percent), automotive vehicles, parts, and engines (3.2 percent), and consumer goods, excluding automotives (1.1 percent).
