Wyoming had the highest total job separations rate in August 2022, at 7.7 percent, while New York had the lowest, at 2.5 percent. Twenty-seven states had a total separations rate greater than the national rate of 3.9 percent.

In August 2022, job openings rates were above 8.0 percent in three states: Alaska (11.9 percent), Wyoming (8.9 percent), and Montana (8.3 percent). Michigan had the lowest job openings rate, at 4.6 percent. Twenty-nine states had a job openings rate above the national rate of 6.2 percent in August 2022.
Alaska and Wyoming also had the two highest hires rates in August 2022, at 10.1 percent and 6.7 percent, respectively. Thirty-two states had a hires rate above the national rate of 4.1 percent.
In August 2022, 28 states had a quits rate above the national rate of 2.7 percent, while 21 states had a layoffs and discharges rate above the national rate of 1.0 percent.
