ATUS Modules

An ATUS Module is a temporary set of questions added to the end of the regular time-use survey that is designed to elicit information about a special topic. ATUS Modules supplement data from the core ATUS, and typically are sponsored by a government agency.

The ATUS has fielded several modules:

  • The ATUS Eating and Health (EH) Module was collected from 2006 to 2008, modified slightly, and collected again in 2014 to 2016. The EH Module data files contain additional information related to eating, meal preparation and health.
  • The ATUS Well-Being (WB) Module was collected in 2010, 2012, and 2013. The WB Module was collected again from March through December 2021. The WB Module data files contain information related to how people felt during selected activities, as well as general health information.
  • The ATUS Leave Module was collected in 2011 and a re-designed version was collected in 2017 and 2018. The 2011 Leave Module data files contain information related to workers’ access to paid and unpaid leave from their jobs, and their ability to adjust their work schedules and locations. The 2017-18 Leave and Job Flexibilities Module data files contain information related to workers' access to paid and unpaid leave from their jobs, job flexibilities and work schedules.
