Women Employees Standard Error Tables

The tables below display variance statistics for women employees (WE) for select industries. Note that estimates of variance are not available for government sectors due to lack of historical probability-based estimates. Given the methods used to calculate them, the standard and relative standard errors presented here are appropriate for use with both seasonally adjusted and not seasonally adjusted CES data. Tables 1 and 2 contain the relative standard error for WE for first preliminary and second preliminary estimates, respectively. Tables 3 and 4 contain the standard error of 1-, 3-, and 12-month changes in WE for first preliminary and second preliminary estimates, respectively. Table 5 contains the footnotes referenced throughout tables 2 and 4. Final sample-based estimates closely resemble those of second preliminary and are available upon request.

Over-the-month changes in employment were much larger during the months of the COVID-19 pandemic, beginning with March 2020 and continuing throughout the year. The calculation of variance, used to gauge the reliability of the current CES estimates, was affected by these unprecedented movements in employment. To mitigate the magnitude in variance resulting from unusually large monthly changes, all months in 2020 were excluded for CES variance calculations.
